A recent study in showcased how health coaching can help with the oral health of nursing residents.
Staff members and residents of a Swedish nursing home received health coaching for three months. In addition, staff participants completed a nursing Dental Coping Belief Scale (DCBS) in the beginning of the program and after 9 months. The oral health of resident participants was also checked using an Oral Assessment guide and mucosal-plaque scores at the start of the study and at the 3, 6, and 9-month marks.
After the program, the DCBS revealed changes related to:
- The usage of fluoride
- Oral health support
- Gum disease and
- Approximal cleaning.
The results were promising. The study showed an oral health coaching program can support nursing staff in maintaining the oral health of their residents. To read more about the study, visit the reference below.
