When we speak about stress, we often speak about it negatively, but did you know that there is good and bad stress? Good stress is Eustress and it is defined as “a positive form of stress having a beneficial effect on health, motivation, performance, and emotional well-being” (Merriam Webster Dictionary). This is the type of stress that encourages you and moves you to action. Bad stress is Distress and it is defined as “pain or suffering affecting the body, a bodily part, or the mind” and being “subject to great strain or difficulties” (Merriam Webster). This type of stress affects both the physical and mental health, and can have both short-term and long-term consequences if it is not dealt with.
