You may already be aware that certain foods can lower your cholesterol level, but can you name a few? Recently, I read an article from Harvard Medical School that mentioned 11 foods that can lower your cholesterol. Here are a few of them:
- Oats
- Barley and other whole grains
- Beans and Nuts (almonds, walnuts, peanuts and others)
- Fruits (such as apples, grapes, strawberries and citrus fruits)
The article also mentioned “a largely vegetarian dietary portfolio of cholesterol-lowering foods substantially lowers LDL, triglycerides and blood pressure. The key dietary components are plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains instead of the highly refined ones and proteins mostly from plants”.
I encourage you to read the article in its entirety and connect with your medical provider and/or a Registered Dietitian if you need help modifying your diet:
