As the United States celebrates Juneteenth today, many individuals are focusing on thoughts of liberation, justice, freedom, and slavery. Although the proclamation went out to end slavery in 1865, many are still enslaved, especially in their minds. There are different ways that the mind can be enslaved. One form called psychological slavery, for example, can occur in these situations:
- The belief in a physical or psychological threat and that tragedy can happen.
- Appreciation of kind acts done by the abuser towards the victim.
- Isolation from other individuals.
- The belief that one is unable to escape that situation [1]
We don’t have to travel too far to see these scenarios. We see them in individuals who are enslaved or abused, and we may even see them in our own homes. Seek true freedom and pursue it.
