The field of Patient Navigation was created to help patients manage their appointments and other events regarding their health visits. Now, coaching is being factored into these roles.
The American Cancer Society ran a pilot program that integrated health coaching into their breast cancer survivorship programs and found the following:
“Preliminary data shows that patients responded positively to this coaching-based lay PN (Patient Navigation) and were able to create action plans, achieve those actions, and ultimately overcome non-medical barriers to cancer care” (Oppong et al., 2024).
